OFF THE RECORD: Tommy Rogers – Between The Buried And Me

Between The Buried And Me

One of the most innovative prog-metal bands in the game, Between The Buried And Me, is returning to Australia this February. We previously spoke to vocalist Tommy Rogers on the release of “Automata I“ so we thought we would jump into another segment for Off The Record!

Favorite place to play?

As I’m older I like to play closer to home so my wife and son can come out so Southern California. I like playing a new venue or place we haven’t played before too

If you could trade places with any other band or artist, past or present, who would it be?

There’s so many bands who may have had great careers but their lives might be miserable. I don’t want to trade with anybody.

Band you would love to tour with?

Mr Bungle and Nine Inch Nails

Artist you would love to collaborate with on a recording?

Mike Patton

Craziest fan encounter?

I’ve been pretty lucky – nothing to crazy – People crying is weird, it makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Most valuable advice ever given to you?

Be patient. That applies to everything but especially to music. Any goal or expectation you have either wont happen or is going to take a long time too happen.

Proudest achievement with your band?

We’re hitting the 20 year mark next year. The fact we’ve lasted 2 decades is phenomenal and I’m very proud of that fact.

If you could be credited with any song ever written, what song would you want your name attached to?

So many Beatles songs! Paul McCartney is alive and he’s like ‘I wrote those songs’ I don’t have a favourite, theres so many good ones. Bohemian Rhapsody is kind of a perfect song too.

Tell us something we don’t know about you?

I’m a singer who plays on stage and I don’t like crowds, really. I don’t like being around a lot of people. But being on stage, with a mic, there’s a separation there where I’ve gotten past that.

Guilty musical pleasure?

I like some 21 Pilots songs, drum and bass – it’s not really ‘guilty’ though.

Outside of music what is your favorite thing to do?

I don’t really have any hobbies. My favourite thing to do is chill at home with my wife and son. Build Lego’s.

If you could be a fly on the wall for the recording of any album in history, what album would it be?

Something crazy like, The Doors and the Beatles were in an era where things were new and effects were new or in a modern sense you have California by Mr Bungle or Disco Volante – these crazy minds working together.

What is the meaning of life?

There is no meaning. Just think about all the time that goes by without us. We don’t matter. Anything we do, this planet doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

On that note, thank you!
