INTERVIEW: Alex Erian – Despised Icon

Despised Icon

It’s been 7 years since Canadian deathcore band Despised Icon last released an album, “Day Of Mourning”. The band called it quits after a number of years touring and recording in 2010 but despite saying they were done with it, 2014 saw them return for a couple of reunion shows which then eventually led to the band’s latest album “Beast”. We spoke to singer Alex Erian to give us some insight into the new album and much more.

Alex: It’s quite a challenge when it’s your 5th record, you’re getting older and you still want to deliver. You still want the fans to enjoy and/or relate to your music, often they just want to hear the old school hits. If they wanna go see Metallica and hear the Black album or go see Megadeth and hear Rust In Peace and all that, we were sort of afraid that the new shit wouldn’t be as well received as our previous records but luckily the fans are all about it from what I have seen. So it’s definitely encouraging, it’s definitely been a kick in the ass!
