Demonhead - Black Devil Lies

Australia’s Demonhead have a mighty sound that after its done battering you about the head leaves you feeling you’ve been assaulted by Pantera whilst taking onboard a touch of Punk, Stoner and Doom for good measure along with the dyed in the wool Thrash.

There’s huge drums, massive riffs and searing vocals with a surprising variety of tempos amongst the 12 tracks here. Opening with ‘Against The Grain’ we’re off and running with a song that strides the boundary between Metal and Thrash, and that’s what I like here those  changes in emphasis – ‘Betrayal Avenged’ for example is even more frenetic and Thrashy but with a great groove too.

There’s a lot to love here but best of the bunch for me are the barrage of ‘Children Of The Night’; the riff riding title track;the wonderful ‘Eyes of the Insane’ and  ‘Double Cross the Dead’ with its huge refrain. Great stuff.
