ALBUM REVIEW: Dante Fox – Six String Revolver

AOR Heaven - November 24th 2017

I must admit that back in the day when Dante Fox released their debut I wasn’t really listening to too much heavily melodic rock, the nineties for me were a bit of a wasteland musically and I often wonder if they would have been had the internet been as well-formed as it is today. As it stands Dante Fox released two great albums in the 90’s ‘Under Suspicion’ and ‘The Fire Within’ before an eight year gap and three more albums more recently latest of which being 2016’s ‘Breathless’. This album picks up where that left off – blissful and classy sing-along melodic rock, but that’s not quite the whole story as hitting play I was hit by a familiar refrain…

That refrain came from opener ‘Firing my Heart’ –  a huge melodic rebel-rouser of a song  and all you really need to hear before you decide whether this is for you. The only issue is that it and the rest of the tracks here are reworkings of tracks from those first two releases split evenly – five from each. So if you’re a fan of the band already then the new album ‘Six String Revolver’ might be somewhat of a disappointment as it sees the band merely re-record the best of those two classics from the ground up “with love, respect, precision and an excellent state of the art modern production from Sheena Sear at M2 Studio’s.”

Saying that though the songs are excellent and while personally there area  couple of glaring omissions the song selection and running order are rather fine. If you’ve not checked out the band before there’s a real feel of vintage 80’s Heart here especially on tracks like ‘Lonely’.

A definite must for lovers of classic female-fronted melodic rock.
