ALBUM REVIEW: Bite the Bullet – Can Be Anything

Mighty Music - March 24th 2017

Denmark’s ‘Bite the Bullet’ could be from anywhere or any time: their quirky take on Seventies Rock that is as ‘Retro’ as it is ‘Rootsy’ also puts their sound right in vogue at the moment.

Three albums in they’ve gone all ‘pop’ – from the slow, languid ooze of first single ‘Sweet Honey’ through opener ‘ More Lover’ and right to the final word ‘March On’.  It’s an album recorded in 4 days that steps a way a little from last outing ‘Wheels’ (2015) that album looked more closely at both 70’s British Rock and Psychedelia along with a healthy dose of the Blues for their primary influences.  This album still retains some of those trace elements but at times sounds like a watered down sanitised shade of their former work.

‘Dance With Another’ is heavy on synth sounds that hold more sway than the often wonderful and sadly understated guitar, it’s at times as if vintage Primal Scream listened to early Floyd and decided to replicate it losing the guitar.

I like it, its great mood music, but at the same time its not a rocker, and not going to get you banging that head.
