There was Lennon & McCartney in the 60’s, in the 70’s we had Taupin & John and the late 80’s into the 90’s we had Currie & Harvie. Now that last pair of names might not be as instantly recognisable as the other two sets of names but today’s guest is partly responsible for some of the greatest alternative pop rock songs to grace us and remain radio favourites to this very day.
On EPISODE 38 of 50 Shades Of Slaids for The Rockpit we catch the guitarist and one half of the constant writing partnership that has forged some of our the finest radio songs and studio albums of their time. Their sophomore album ‘Waking Hours’ took Australia by storm in 1989. Iain Harvey is one half of the writing partnership that has stayed true and together for more than forty years. Their sound and style is unmistakable.
Del Amitri are returning to Australia in February 2027 for a run of shows across this country to celebrate 40 years of past to present. We sat down with guitarist Iain Harvey to discuss the bands history, their connection to Australia. As the name suggests this is a greatest hits tour that spans the bands entire career. The bands last record ‘Fatal Mistakes’ from 2021 is a classic that shows that great songs are simply that. It continues on with the signature sound that Harvie along with frontman/bassist Justin Currie created.
Del Amitri are one of those bands whose catalogue of hits may not be on the tip of your tongue, but they are etched into your memory and when you hear them, they come rushing back. Their undeniable style and sound just can’t be denied. These show are ones not to be missed and I am certain will sell out.
