Bringing together intimate storytelling with a gorgeous mix of country pop, indie and folk-rock sounds, Newcastle’s CHLOE GILL proudly presents her anticipated debut album, I HAVE A HABIT OF DREAMING. Featuring singles ‘Pushing Punishment’, ‘Down The Drain’, ‘Why?’, ‘Over Me’ and ‘Something In the Winter’, the album represents a strong touchstone in Chloe’s career.
Life lessons mix in with observations on emotional growth, as Chloe’s own personal journey navigating adulthood threads together with her ever-evolving creative adventure. Across its ten tracks, I HAVE A HABIT OF DREAMING offers the listener an opportunity to become immersed in gorgeous soundscapes, while also learning more about the songwriter and her natural ability to bring light to dark; rich texture to some beautiful observations, from paper to the studio and here, to record.
I HAVE A HABIT OF DREAMING delves into Chloe’s process of growing and adapting to life shaped by a late ADHD diagnosis; a process that has led her to discover and embrace self-love and acceptance. As such, she hopes the album offers some sense of resolve and connection to others out there who may have travelled, or are travelling, a similar path.
“My goal with this project is not only for neurodivergent people but is for anyone who has ever felt different, the record’s whole point is to remind people that it’s everyone’s first time being alive, as well as everyone’s last time being alive. How it’s just so much more worthwhile and meaningful to be kind, grateful, present, not get so caught up in things that don’t serve you, work, life stress, things you can’t control or the past.
It’s about leading your own life, dreaming your own dreams and bringing them to life. I have always had a very supportive network around me and I understand not everyone has that privilege or ease in life and that sometimes it’s more complex than that, but this album really serves as a place for people to come to when they just need to feel a little more loved, believed in, confident, capable, strong, fearless and totally inspired to lead their own lives.” CHLOE GILL
The album has seen Chloe work with Newcastle producer Gareth Hudson (Amy Vee, Buddy Knox) at Hazy Cosmic Jive Studios. It also features contributions from talented musicians including Rachel Pogson, Eli Love, Brandon Yarnold, Jamie Pollock and Jesse O’Neill, who together with Chloe, have created a bed of sounds that elevate the lyricism in a beautiful way.
Sophisticated and fresh in its approach to heartfelt storytelling, I HAVE A HABIT OF DREAMING shows Chloe’s confidence as a songwriter and performer; pouring every ounce of honesty into her writing, she remains connected to the songs in such an emotionally mature way.
“It has been so much fun recording, touring, releasing and writing this project. I am eternally grateful for the collaboration across this project, I am so grateful for everyone who has been involved in making it happen.
Recording an album whilst navigating an ADHD diagnosis, touring, my sister moving overseas, and ending my long term relationship, and many other life events was really interesting and overwhelming. Life doesn’t stop just because you’re making an album.
