Steven Wilson is one of those names that has a career that is vast and broad in the music industry. Wilson first came to my attention in 2007 with the release of Porcupine Trees album ‘Fear Of A Blank Planet’. This heavy progressive album simply captivated me. His voice his guitar work and the musicianship in this band and on this record was exactly what I was missing from my life. At the time I was going through a Rush phase and this record is one that sat so well into the mix of my listening habit of the day. Of course from here I went back and revisited the back catalogue from the previous years. Porcupine Tree only released one more studio album in 2009 and at that time Wilson started releasing solo albums and projects under his own name.
Over the course of his solo career Wilson has delivered nine studio albums with the most recent being this years ‘The Overview’ which is an ambitious two track album that is a concept record and soundscape with the works. We chat about the album and his November tour of Australia in which ‘The Overview” will be played in full along with a selections from his career.
We also dive into his work remixing albums for artist like Black Sabbath, Yes, Kiss, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Tears For Fears, Pink Floyd just to name a few.
If this chat is anything to go by Steven Wilsons ‘The Overview’ Tour is not to be missed at it really is quite a journey sonically and visually.
