Flaming Wrekage - Cathedral Of Bones

Sydney melodic death thrash heads Flaming Wreckage have returned with an absolute monster of an album in the form of “Cathedral Of Bones”, the follow up to 2017’s “From Flesh To Dust”.

Now first and foremost this album will require a few spins to digest everything that is going on and for my ears, this release feels like a nod to old school thrash / death. The thoughts going around in my head while listening to this album were along the lines of that I’m listening to something special, think Kreator on beefed up steroids, think straight forward thrash melodic death but with a twist. None more evident than on tracks “Straight For The Kill” and “The Voiceless“. I’m also picturing mosh pits a plenty when these tracks are unleashed upon the masses and we are all able to go back to live gigs.

The drumming on this album is simply breathtaking to say the least, this is made absurdly clear on the track “Hell To Pay“. Casual fans of metal and diehards alike will enjoy this album, production on this release is top notch with every instrument and vocal note allowed to shine and breathe in it’s own hellish way, showcased to perfection with the album closer “Sin Survives“.

As I say in most of my reviews, take time to absorb this latest creation best enjoyed with a good set of headphones. In closing this review I’d like to congratulate the band on creating something truly special for the Australian metal scene, this album will be spoken about for a long time to come. 2021 has seen a bumper crop of great releases so far with this one being no exception. In the words of Molly Meldrum,  “Do yourself a favour” and grab this one pronto, you can thank me later. it’s a straight 10 out of 10 for me – CRANK IT!

10/10
