INTERVIEW: Alecia “Mixi” Demner – Stitched Up Heart

Stitched Up Heart

LA rockers Stitched Up Heart recently released their full-length sophomore album “Darkness“ via Another Century. It features tracks such as “Lost” featuring Sully Erna of Godsmack as well as numerous singles in the lead up to it’s release and is a diverse mix of hard rock with modern electro touches. We grabbed a few words with singer Alecia “Mixi” Demner to find out a bit more on the band and their newest release.

What was the reason for your band name and how did the band get started?

Mixi: Stitched Up Heart was formed in 2010 after a musical and emotional heart break. I picked my heart back up and started a whole new band, combining a few players I knew around the LA music scene in 2010.

What is it like to hear your songs being played on the radio & being recognized for your success in the rock industry?

Mixi: Hearing your song on the radio is something that will never get old. It’s surreal, especially since that’s how I would hear about new bands when I was younger. To know people are even listening to our music in general is mind blowing. As for success, we still have so much more to go!

What ideas comes to your mind when you write and record your songs?

Mixi: I try to come up with a concept, a message to help people, and a melody that works with the music and gets stuck in your head.

What’s been touring like for you ? Do you enjoy performing for your fans?

Mixi: I absolutely love to tour. I miss it now more than ever. It’s what I love. It gives me life.

What kind of gifts have your fans ever given you?

Mixi: I have a ridiculous collection of unicorns from our patrons. You would think I was in elementary school if you saw it.

Do you guys have any embarrassing moments while performing on stage?

Mixi: Plenty! One that comes to mind was when I was crowd surfing on an inflatable Pegasus at Rock on the Range and it popped and I fell into peoples hands. I didn’t get hurt, but was a little embarrassed!

Who would you like to collaborate with for your next album in the future & why?

Mixi: I have a huge list of people I would love to collaborate with. My first would be LJ from Sevendust. I just think he’s super awesome!

When not touring or in the studio, what do you spend time on doing?

Mixi: I paint, make jewelry & clothing, foster bottle-baby kittens, ride my motorcycle, surf, and ride my bicycle.

If you weren’t in a band what would you be doing?

Mixi: I have no idea. I don’t think I will ever not be in this band. Music is all I want to do.

What advice would you give to a young person who would like to start their own band?

Mixi: Practice every single day, no matter what. Learn an instrument. Be humble and willing to learn from your mistakes. Never ever give up.

In the next 10 years where do you guys see yourself at?

Mixi: Hopefully touring all over the world in arenas!

While being in Stitched Up Heart, what are some of your best memories so far?

Mixi: We make so many great memories doing this. I would have to go with bringing my dad on Shiprocked last year. He had the time of his life and I got to show him the rock scene. He is now one of us!

Who were your influences growing up?

Mixi: It’s all over the map from the Beatles to Metallica, Korn, NIN , Goldfinger, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, No Doubt.

What would you like to say to everyone who has been listening to your music & continued to support you guys through from the very beginning?

Mixi: That we appreciate anyone who supports us more than they will ever know. I hope they feel the love we put into every song.
