Best described as “Oddly Timed Stoner Jazz Rock with a Dash of Goth”, Sydney’s Magnus spearheaded by enigmatic frontman Arne Heeres are back with “Humbugger“, their second single from forthcoming album Detachment.

The tour will take the band (featuring Cog’s Lucious Borich), to Brisbane (with Iron Eye, Rhino & Street Pieces), Gold Coast (with Baltimore Gun Club, Kobrakai & Moustache on Fire), Sydney (With The Desert Sea & The Dead Riders) and Melbourne (Smash Fest & with Borrachero) through July and August.

Premiered by Music Feeds the recently premiered video for “Humbugger” was produced by Entropico, the creative geniuses behind Methyl Ethyl’s Ubu, Kite String Tangle and Ecca Vandal to name a few.

Lyrically written as a personal call to arms and a reminder to be yourself, when writing the song Arne reflected on what influenced him and how to carve your own path.

Growing up, you’re influenced by the people around you and the ones you admire. You have to make up your mind who you want to be, find what defines you.   This song needed to be written to remind myself to live, not slip into the comfortable vegetable patch. Creep into the mind, talk to the characters who live there, confront the ones that haunt you, nurture the ones you need, mould yourself into that true version of you.” – Arne Heeres

After the success of their debut record “I” Arne was convinced their sophomore album needed to have an “all-or-nothing” approach so they shot their demos out around the world to people they admire and wanted to work with and sparked interest from big names like Steve Albini, Alan Moulder & Bob Clearmountain.

After visiting a number of highly regarded studios in London, the band decided to record in former INXS studio, where both DZ Deathrays and Courtney Barnettmoulded recent releases. With much discussion and toying with different celebrated industry icons Magnus’ second album was recorded with Five time Aria award winningproducer / engineer Paul McKercher featuring COG’s Lucius Borich on drums. It promises an even more raw and visceral approach all the while including the unexpected twists and turns Magnus have become known for. Both Paul McKercher and the legendary Bob Clearmountain (Grammy winner, USA – Rolling Stones, Springsteen, The Preatures) have been mixing songs and Brian Gardner, Grammy winner and known for Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf album, mastering the album.

Live Magnus, derived from “Magn-hus” and translating as “powerhouse” in Old Norse, are defined by their name. Set up as a powerful four-piece which gives maximum impact and at times space for each instrument to shine separately. As a testament to their intense live performances, a casual open mic at Melbourne’s famous Cherry Bar landed them a residency and nomination for Cherry Bar’s best live band of the year award by invite of none other than owner James Young himself.

The album Detachment is set to be released in full in 2019.
