Tonight Perth saw the final stop on the Australian tour for two of metals giants – Born Of Osiris and Chelsea Grin. Here is how it went down.

Upon arrival it was clear that the show was going to be hectic. Speaking with the bar staff early in the night, they said that already through the doors was approximately 300 eager punters. The place was buzzing and the crowd were primed.

First to take to the stage were hometown crew Entropy. Now to be fair it’s never been an easy task being the first band to open, try as they might for me they fell a little flat with chugging guitars stealth like bass lines they were missing fire power. Towards the end of the set they picked up momentum but I’m looking at it from a prospective that I didn’t feel that they fit the bill, maybe it was an off night and I am more then willing to watch more from these guys.

Next up Perth crew Conform, blending many elements from a broad spectrum of genres including modern hardcore and early 2000’s nu metal. The energy exuding from these guys was next level and being a first time spectator of this band to me it felt like a fresh take on what can sometimes be over done and dried out combining the best parts of what I grew up with in my late teens and early 20’s. Think Korn, Limp Bizkit and Deftones, add sledge hammer guitars, pounding drums and you have what we witnessed tonight. From my vantage point the crowd really got into it, we were even treated to an as yet unnamed track which I real enjoyed.  Expect big things from this crew, the future is looking bright

Next up Salt Lake City, Utah monster’s Chelsea Grin storm the stage and it was like being sonically punched in the face. Vocalist Tom Barber was an absolute machine summoned from the depths of hell with a vocal range that would make most people shake with fear. My favorite track was “Hostage”, getting the crowd to clap along and it was all about involvement and having a great time and by this stage the moshpit was insane!

I could also write a complete book on the guitar and bass tone, the words “low foreboding” and “pure evil” spring to mind. This was my second time seeing these guys and they never disappoint, it is abundantly clear that they love being in Australia and the fans just can’t  seem to get enough of them either. Next time I think they may level the club.

Now for the grand finale, Chicago based behemoth’s Born Of Osiris. Now from the outset this was a complete master class in a live performance, period. Everything from the sound production to the guitar tone to everything in between. I first got into the band when they were still up and coming with 2007’s album “The New Reign” to 2019’s album “The Simulation” and it is like witnessing night and day, the level of craftsmanship and honing of skills is out of sight. Hearing an old favorite like “Bow Down” was awesome, Lee McKinney is nothing short of a guitar god but the band just bring their A game.

I could go on for days other than to say if you missed this, you missed out on something truly unique and spectacular in every sense of the word. The band even drank whiskey from their shoes at the end of the set otherwise known as a “shoey”, sounds gross I know but this just illiterates that they were having an absolute ball. Let’s hope and pray to the metal gods above that we don’t have to wait an eternity to see this band again, judging by the looks on the punters faces this was crushing ecstasy!
