Returning to celebrate exceptional WA songwriting, WAM Song of the Year 2017/18 is now open for submissions until Monday 12 February.

The state-wide search for WA’s best songs offers over $45,000 worth of prizes to songwriters of all ages, levels and genres. With this year’s competition now open to published works, there are even more opportunities for local songwriters to have their work heard by leading music industry judges.
All WA songwriters are encouraged to apply, with 16 diverse categories each offering winners a $500 cash prize, studio time with WA’s best, a double pass to WAMCon 2018 and more. Category winners are all in the running for the grand prize package, which includes:

$3,000 cash

A two-day recording and production session with one of West Australia’s most high-profile producers and recent Best Sound Engineer/ Producer (studio) WAMAward winner, Andy Lawson of Debaser Studios.

The opportunity for a publishing & sync licensing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing, plus a tutorial in publishing and licensing and ongoing industry mentoring.

A national media servicing campaign for a single or release through Firestarter Distribution

All winners will be announced at the Awards Party, debuting at the iconic, Gold Rush era hall-turned live music venue the Fly by Night Club in High Street, Fremantle on Wednesday 16 May.

The 16 categories will honour gifted WA songwriters from all genres such as Blues/Roots, Country, Electronic, Experimental, Folk, Jazz, Metal/Heavy, Punk/Hardcore, Pop, Rock, Urban/Hip Hop and World, plus extra categories for Schools (14 Years & Under), Schools (15-17), Outstanding Indigenous and Outstanding Regional.

From the brightest emerging talent to proven legends, WAM Song of the Year offers WA-based songwriters of all levels priceless exposure and vital recognition by Australian radio and media.
