Tonight was the “Survival Or Ruin” EP launch for up and coming metalheads Bayview Suspect at Perth night spot The Boston with a host of extreme local talent along for the ride. Our reporter Steve Monaghan went down to check it all out and witness some of best local talent in the Perth metal scene.

Upon arriving there was much going on and to be upfront I wasn’t sure what to expect. First on tonight’s bill were hometown deathcore heads Harrow bringing their own take and spin on deathcore. Now first and foremost I’m not big on labeling a band and these industry terms can sometimes feel oversaturated but these guys do it well and certainly give it everything they have. I personally felt the set was missing a little something but with a few minor tweaks I can see this band going far, well done boys, opening a show will never be seen as a simple task.

Next up All This Filth take to the stage to a now expanding crowd, now these guys bring a lot to the table in terms of sound and style, bringing a ton of energy and steamrolling through a solid set. The frontman was bounding around the stage trying to get the crowd involved and it totally worked! By midway through the set the band had the crowd eating out of there collective hands with razor sharp guitars and bass lines the order of the night.

Now Bayview Suspect took to the stage and they played the entire new EP and on the live front I was 100 percent sold. This was truly a great set with more punch then 20 rounds with Mike Tyson! “Belly Full Of Lies” was a stand out, the only slight negative that I had was the lead singer seemed somewhat nervous which for me slightly detracted from a great performance. This is something that can be worked on and will come with time and more exposure to the live circuit.

Trying to compare the bands last effort in 2016 “To Whom It May Concern” to what we saw tonight is like comparing apples to oranges, much clear sonically and a real step up to something completely worth your time and dollars. Well done boys!

Final band of the evening, Xenobiotic took to the stage and vocalist TJ looked and sounded like a demonic marionette doll, swaying and writhing around on the stage and I’m going to be blunt, these guys take the proverbial cake in terms of brutality.

Taking tracks from this year’s stellar release “Prometheus” among many other tracks I even broke out the old “air” guitar at various points during the set and I’m not ashamed to admit it in 2018. I think personally I’ve found one of my favourite bands in Perth, I can envision huge things for these guys, I really can!

All in all a great lineup, the turn out was a little disheartening so my advice – get down and support our local seen. You only have to look in our own backyard to find some great fresh talent.
