ALBUM REVIEW: Aversion’s Crown – Xenocide

Nuclear Blast - January 20th 2016

Australian metal destroyers Aversions Crown will release their sophomore release entitled ‘Xenocide’ on January 20th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. We take a look at the album to see if it matches up with their previous effort.

Well, Fuck me. Never have I been hit over the head and beaten to death by a more heavy & brutal death metal album like this one before.

This is a new direction for Aversions Crown, adding more of a deep and melodic feel to this album. I really like the new sound these Brisbane boys are producing. From the first track ‘Void’ I knew this would be a magnificent creation and there is no disappointment from Aversions Crown here. The entire album is a mixture of old and new. Some news sounds, new riffs but also sticking to the traditional as well.

First single off the album ‘Erebus’ is full of brutal vocals and wicked riffs, but with some interesting twists. Going from a spiral of death metal into a wonderful melodic tone, while sticking to the melodic change and adding into it the brutality of Mark Poida’s perfect growling vocals. ‘The Soulless Acolyte’ is an absolute killer of a track, with some amazing extreme drumming by Jayden Mason.

‘Ophiophagy’ sticks more to the traditional Aversions Crown, with that straight up metal in your face vibe. ‘Stillborn Existence’ and ‘Misery’ were an absolute treat to listen too, even hearing a tad, well more of a snippet of Mark’s clean vocals…just a little taste but you can hear it once or twice. ‘Odium’ has a completely different feel to it at the start but goes quickly into some absolutely killer drumming and amazing riffs.

An absolute credit to the boys in Aversions Crown. This album is a superb production from the guys that is sure to knock you off your death metal seat!
