Perth’s At Depths release ‘Anthropocene’ Single & Video

At Depths

At Depths is a five-piece metal band forged in the crucible of the Perth scene, creating music with a cerebral combination of thrashy, eclectic riffs; slow, ominous breakdowns and resonant melodic refrains since 2011. After persevering through several lineup changes, they have gone on to share to stage with Australian Metal powerhouses such as Buried in Verona and Make Them Suffer, as well as joining Nucleust for the West-coast leg of their national tour.

Lead single from their debut EP, ’Anthropocene’ was recorded and produced by Matt Templeman, an acclaimed figure of Perth metal production. The music video was directed and produced by Joe Varley of Darkspirit photographer, a long-time collaborator and notable Perth name, producing video for Make Way for Man, Havoc and Earth Rot.

The band stumbled onto the concept of ‘Anthropocene’ while they were balls deep in a Peyote bender in the middle of the Chittering bushland. Scott had just skinned a goanna with his whittling knife when he looked around to the rest of lads and said “oy the planets fucked ay,” to resounding mutual affirmation. And lo, a thematic masterpiece to fit the monumental musical soundscape was born.

‘Anthropocene’ navigates through both classic and progressive styles, slow melodious arpeggios give way to a high impact, heavy hitting chorus. The single combines soaring vocal melody and bone-splitting breakdowns, At Depths’ contempt of the formulaic is reflected in the erratic riffs that characterize their sound.

Keep an eye out for At Depths at your local venue soon!
