Melbourne punks Sweet Gold announce album tour

Sweet Gold

After losing faith in modern recordings, Melbourne punk rockers Sweet Gold packed up and hit the beautiful Victorian countryside to channel doo-wop, British Invasion and ‘60s garage into their debut album

Offered up with a punk urgency mastered in the ’70s, Love Songs Till Midnight pays tribute to the best bands of years gone by, capturing that indefinable human element, the noise, the breath, the tempo and feeling all to tape, while simultaneously sharpening their live show a Mar/Apr tour in support.

“How many bands have you heard lately that sound like they were printed off a colour photocopier at Officeworks and laminated?” asks frontman Mike Tea.

“I can’t even tell who can play anymore. I have lost faith in most recordings. Not for the bands themselves phoning it in, but for the magic I used to feel when I heard a great album.

“Tape doesn’t lie. If you stink, it’s right there. If you get the right take, it really is magic. We wanted to see what we really sound like. We wanted to see how we were representing our ideas in real time.”

It was that headstrong mentality that sees songs of loyalty and lust, carnal deeds, cheap thrills and romance of the highest order delivered with a tight conviction you’d expect to find in a career band.

The six-date tour kicks off in Brisbane on March 24 before wrapping with a hometown launch three weeks later at Grace Darling, with the new release available on limited vinyl at all shows as well as the Sweet Gold website.
