ALBUM REVIEW: Junkyard Drive – Sin and Tonic

Mighty Music - February 17th 2017

If you like your Rock N Roll with a distinct sleazy edge then pray welcome the new Danish sleaze rock kings!

‘Sin and Tonic’ is a record with a real Sunset Strip, late eighties sonic edge but with a thoroughly modern outlook an attitude, and not only that it’s been delivered despite a Justin Bieber styled delay: ‘’We were about to finish the album in Medley Studios, just a couple of weeks before heading to the States. We had just two days to record 4 tracks, everything was set up and we were ready to go. This is when Justin Bieber showed up in the studio with his whole entourage of bodyguards and men in suits and wanted to record a song! Bieber put us on a 6 hours hold, but when we got back in the studio we picked up the guitars and started shredding away, and we managed to stay inside our time limit.” – Birk, lead guitar, Junkyard Drive

So what do you get? Ten tracks of blistering Rock N Roll, kicking off with the swagger of ‘If You Wanna Rock Me’ which is immediately followed up by power of ‘Bone Dry Jessie’  and first single ‘Drama Queen’: it’s a s good a start to an album by this type of band you’ll hear all year.

Sonically Junkyard Drive have elements of a number of vintage bands in their DNA, there’s of course plenty of the old school: the grit of Guns N Roses and even a touch of Whitesnake on ‘Natural High’ but there are also more modern comparisons: a little Crashdiet, Santa Cruz, maybe even The Treatment or Shiraz lane in there too.

Best of the lot have to be those three openers and maybe the cowbell laden, leather clad sing-along ‘BAD’; the excellent ballad ‘Geordie’; the big hook of ‘Danger Zone’ or the rocking closer ‘Slave to Technology’.

Well worth checking out.
