ALBUM REVIEW: Cahoot! – Miss-Guided (EP)

Independent - November 2017

Hailing from Kent in the UK and citing Kings Of Leon, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and Shredding guitars as influences Cahoot! have put together a debut EP to showcase their fresh catchy melodies and accomplished lyrics and it’s all adorned with some more than proficient shredding.

If you like your rock light and breezy and leaning towards pop but still can’t stop your ears perking up when you hear a great solo then this is well worth a listen. Cahoot! is the product of ex-cover band Rumblefish members, Ju and Gra who show in the five tracks here that they certainly have a great chemistry on the boil.

Opener and title track ‘Mis-Guided’ manages to say a lot in its four minutes, starting with a simple gentle guitar line it smoulders and grows before busting into life with a shuffling contemporary sounding chorus and lush bridge that is served well by the sparse production. It’s a decent start that is added to by ‘Jonah’ which stutters seductively and ‘Try to Believe’ which starts slowly like the opening track but unlike the opener maintains that pace driven by a lyric that really draws you in to the heart of the song.

‘All 4U’ that starts to draw the EP to a close is a soft rocker with real emotion that may well be the standout track here, it’s similarly slow paced and replete with some great mages and the best guitar work here. Closing track ‘No End in Sight’ is it’s stiffest competition and ends the EP leaving you wanting more. It’s brighter, airier and uplifting and puts you just in the right mod to take on the day.  This is something that should excite newer rock fans, but also a release that should please the older crowd.
