ALBUM REVIEW: Horisont – Sudden Death

Release Date: May 15th 2020 - Century Media

Horisont - Sudden Death

As soon as I started listening to the first song off Horisont’s latest album, ‘Sudden Death’ which is due for release on May 15, I was stolen away and thrown back to a time when rock and roll was plentiful, classic, honest and stood the test of time.  Swedish hard rock band Horisont is everything I’ve just mentioned and more in their latest offering.

I’m taken back to 70’s inspired guitar riffage, guitar harmonies (yes that’s right!) and gorgeous piano melodies that I can clutch onto.  Axel’s lead vocal remind me a little of Ozzy with his impressive vocal range fronting this classic hard rock 5-piece… and with a mean rock lead vocal, you have my undivided attention.

With some of their influences being the biggest in rock history (Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Status Quo to name but a few) their story is one of their own and not to be sniffed at, as these guys have been around for a while and whilst I have clearly been living under a rock, I have now discovered that this is one band I can rely on to bring the goods home time & time again and hope to catch them live if they are ever over this corner of the world.

They are certainly a band to add to your ‘classics’ playlists at a time when modern rock can sometimes get you all bummed out with the fact that the very things that define good rock music should be there but are somehow nowadays missing like guitar harmonies, killer melodies, guitar solos, epic rock piano and voices that have conviction, passion and honesty.

Since 2006 these fellas have been cementing their sound in the Scandinavian hard rock scene and 10 years after forming, signed a record deal with Century Media Records.  Bringing their refreshing classic rock sound they achieved #1 on the Swedish charts for ‘About time’ in 2017 and earned their place on the Tons of Rock Festival bill that very same year.

I’m excited for what the future holds for these guys.  Being a lover of 70’s rock myself, these guys bring it all and so much more, so keep an eye out for their progress as they continue their rock odyssey into 2020 with ‘Sudden Death’.

8/10
