If their opening track ‘Let Me Rock n Roll’ was a statement of intent, ‘Wild Child’ is the perfect bookend, a big-riff, classic rock anthem bursting with high energy drumming and a catchy chorus. The lyrics are witty and playful, with tongue-in-cheek verses that fans will love to sing along to.
Bassist Billy Dedman says: “Wild Child started as this really groovy riff over a shuffle feel. Lindsey quickly came back to the next rehearsal with this great chorus hook which we tried over a totally different feel which at first, it just wasn’t working quite right. Eventually we found the right chords, with the right feel and it just became this monster of a song!”
Drummer Donna Peters adds, “I really love the way the syncopated vocal part on the final chorus fits within the same floor tom part that is used on the intro! It’s such a fun song to play live.”
The 5 to 4 EP marks a new era for Brave Rival, their first release as a four-piece and captures the full force of their rock and blues influences.

Vocalist Lindsey Bonnick says, “5 to 4 is a result of a burning fire that was lit beneath us at the start of the year to get new music out into the world that represents us as a four piece. This new 5 track EP is fuelled by passion and an unwavering love of rock and blues rock music. We are never a band to shy away from being eclectic in our writing and performing and this new body of work really sums up what we are about, it’s fast and furious and it’s delicate and deep. We are very proud of it and we hope you love it as much as we do”
Guitarist Ed ‘the Shred’ Clarke adds, “It is a statement of intent for sure. We really wanted to pull out all the stops as just a 4. It’s the first record we have made which doesn’t feature any additional musicians. It’s just us. Raw and powerful.”
The band are also aiming to become the first independent act from Portsmouth to enter the official UK Top 40 charts.
The press is already hailing 5 to 4 as a major moment for the band. Planet Mosh calls it a “magnum opus of hard rock splendour,” Blues Rock Review praises that “the highs of 5 to 4 are quite high,” and Maximum Volume declares it “a band finding strength through change, and sounding all the better for it. If this is the prologue, then bring on the novel.”
Brave Rival will support the release with an extensive UK tour, kicking off on October 18th in Aldershot and continuing through to March 2025 with dates across the country. Brave Rival are a rock band on a mission, just raw, high-energy, riff-driven rock that demands to be heard.
