Meanjin/Brisbane-based petalcore outfit Torizon announce their debut EP ‘Meliora‘, out on Friday 19 September, alongside East Coast tour dates. To mark exciting news, the group reveal their impassioned single ‘Sober‘, produced and mixed by Kalen Austin, and mastered by Mike Kalajian, Rogue Planet Studios (Bad Omens, Windwaker, Papa Roach).

Opening with a gripping synth line, ‘Sober’ quickly erupts into a towering wall of sound, driven by crushing riffs, cinematic orchestration, and thunderous rhythms. The track swells and recedes with deliberate tension, guiding listeners through an emotional storm that crescendos in a prog-inspired bridge. Cascading melodies mirror the anguish of characters Luna and Sam, courtesy of dual vocals by frontwoman Mish Sharma and bassist Ben Gallaher.
Torizon touch on the meaning behind ‘Sober’: “‘Sober’ picks up where ‘Bloom’ left off – after Luna and Sam tragically lose their baby. It dives into the aftermath and how their relationship unravels under the weight of the miscarriage. We used addiction as a metaphor to capture the gut-wrenching pain they’re going through. It’s a harsh reality for many who’ve been in similar situations, where coping can sometimes mean self-destruction.”
Accompanying the release is a short, emotionally charged video by Emerge Creative, portraying Luna and Sam’s desperate attempts to reconcile. “It’s a pretty confronting clip,” Mish adds. “There are some personal touches in this video too – the IVF needles are from my egg donation process, and the bouquet of roses is a subtle nod to ‘Bloom‘, tying the storylines together.”
Earlier this year, Torizon released their newest single ‘Bloom’, which was warmly embraced by Music Feeds, AAA Backstage, The Rockpit, Ramona Magazine, The Soundcheck, HEAVY Mag and clocked over 10,000 Spotify streams in the first week of release, as well as earning a spot on Apple Music‘s Breaking Hard Rock. The track also received support from triple j Unearthed and Australian Community Radio stations such as 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide, Edge Radio, 2SER, 2XX FM, and PBS FM.
In the live arena, Torizon have packed hometown headline shows and shared stages with Circles, Valhalore, The Last Martyr, Fifth Dawn, Days Like These, Aurateque, Orpheus Omega and Triple Kill. This October, the band will bring their high-impact performances to the East Coast for their first-ever headline tour. Joined by Naarm/Melbourne’s alt-metal outfit New Million, the tour will stop in Eora/Sydney, Naarm/Melbourne, and Meanjin/Brisbane and will also feature local, heavy acts from each city. Tickets will be available from Tuesday, 24 June at torizon.band.
