THE BAMBOOS Announce Their 12th Studio Album ‘SUGAR ON TOP’ And Release Title Track & Video As Second Single

After limbering up with first single “Rockets & Flowers” foundational Melbourne Soul / Funk act, The Bamboos, have announced their 12th studio album, Sugar On Top. The second single release from the forthcoming set is the sweet Boogie fuelled title track.

The reaction to the first single “Rockets & Flowers” has been like rain after a long dry spell, with plays and support from radio and DJs worldwide as befits an artist with the deep and wide global fanbase as The Bamboos, with notable support from stations such as KEXP Seattle, BBC 6Music UK, ABC Australia local radio and RSI Natonal Radio in Switzerland

The track “Sugar On Top” is a luscious, mid-tempo cowbell-lead groove with the horns coming in at just the right time to elevate the chorus. Australia’s own “High Priestess Of Soul” Kylie Auldist shows her sweeter side (pun intended) in a Betamax styled video directed by Rick Clifford, making the track the perfect teaser for the album, which will be released November 6th on guitarist and band leader Lance Ferguson’s own Pacific Theatre label. The ten track album will feature a handful of guest vocalists alongside Auldist, but this time all pulled from Bamboos friends and family.

While the album was recorded with the band’s long time co-producer and engineer, John Castle (whose in demand studio skills have been called in by the likes of Alex LaheyVance JoyAngus & Julia StoneJack River and Cub Sport), this time Fergsuon decided to track it at Castle’s recording space in his new home of Launceston, Tasmania. “After so many years working with John Castle in the legendary Shed Studios in Melbourne”, said Ferguson, “it was great this time to travel to his home studio in Launceston, which was misty and magical at that time of year”.

The viral success for their 2006 track “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, which exploded on social media in late 2025 shows no signs of abating with now well over one billion plays on TikTok and with similarly huge numbers across Instagram and Youtube. Long a live favourite, there’s been no pattern or trend to the song’s success in how it’s been used, with users in almost every language and country around the world simply drawn to an undeniably feel-good sweet Soul tune. The song saw another wave of success earlier in 2026 with a remix from one of Australia’s best Dance acts, Cosmo’s Midnight.
