After years of loud gigs, bad jokes, good songs, and doing everything the long way ‘round, Naarm/Melbourne rock’n’roll misfits The Mean Times are finally unleashing their long-awaited debut full-length album ‘Feel More Dumb’, out 12th September on Golden Robot Records.
Known for their ludicrously energetic shows, self-deprecating charm, and brutally honest lyricism, The Mean Times have bottled the chaos, heart, and humour of their live act into 13 unhinged tracks. For a band that’s been performing since 2011, it’s a hard-earned milestone and a testament to improving with age.
‘Feel More Dumb’ comes with tongue firmly in cheek, yet never shies away from serious territory. Because really, what better way to process sex, death, depression, aging, and burnout than with a healthy dose of humour? And while the record does rock (hard), there’s more here than just a straightforward rock album. Beneath the riffs and chaos lie sharp injections of indie, Britpop, and punk, multi-layered genre-bending mixes that add depth, swagger and surprise to every track.
“These songs wrestle with the absurdity of adult life: lust without romance, grief without clarity, and the nagging suspicion that your best days were five years ago in a pub you can’t remember the name of. We aim to be uncomfortably honest. To say the quiet parts out loud.” Tom Morgan, The Mean Times
‘Feel More Dumb’ was recorded at Head Gap Studios before it tragically burnt down. It was produced by Anna Laverty (Camp Cope, The Peep Tempel, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), mixed by the band’s own Eoin Clements, and mastered by Nao Anzai (Rolling Blackouts CF, Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, Teskey Brothers).
