HARPER BLOOM Shares Dreamy New Single ‘Sleepyhead’

Naarm/Melbourne based indie-pop artist Harper Bloom is sharing her first single of the year in the form of “Sleepyhead”. The euphoric track is a taste of what’s to come from Harper in 2025, with her new EP House of Cards due out later this year.

Drawing you in with mesmerising electric guitars and melodic bass, “Sleepyhead” features lush synths and an ethereal and very cute children’s choir. An empowering anthem of self acceptance as a queer person and the undeniable freedom that comes with it, “Sleepyhead” is a glimpse into Harper’s personal journey.

Harper shared, “The track is about hiding anxiety and masking yourself as a queer kid, and the damage it does to one’s sense of self, but as the track grows, it moves towards an accepting and euphoric ending. It almost feels like you’ve finally broken out of a cage. The rest of the EP really celebrates being open and queer and how it can improve your confidence and make life incredibly exciting and fulfilling. So this track isa good stepping stone to the fun and celebratory tracks to come on the remainder of the EP.

It also talks about a friend I lost when I was younger, who was struggling with their identity, so it’s
quite emotionally compelling and nostalgic on that side. I thought the kids choir would help bring justice to the words in the chorus, and really showcase the innocence and vulnerability in early adulthood. An absolute legendary group of year 5’s from Clifton Hill primary came and sang this for me at Ed’s studio.”

Melburnians can hear “Sleepyhead” in live form at the official single launch on Friday 18 July at Shotkickers in Thornbury.

Due for release later this year, Harper Bloom’s third EP House of Cards is an explosive, soul-baring project produced by Edward Quinn (Royel Otis, G-Flip, Sycco) and Tim Cox (Woodes) and mixed by Liam Quinn (Peach PRC, Ruel). A bold ode to queer self-expression, House of Cards empowers the LGBTQIA+ community to live boldly and unapologetically themselves.

Known for her cinematic live show, Harper crafts quirky indie-party anthems that celebrate individuality and coming-of-age queer identity. With over half a million Spotify streams and industry acclaim from NME, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, triple j and more, her voice has resonated far beyond the underground.

Recently gracing the stage at Beyond The Valley, Harper has supported world-class acts like James Marriott and Sophie May as well as local legends Rum Jungle, Surf Trash, Noah Dillon and Alex the Astronaut. Earning love from Spotify and Apple Music with her 2024 EP Flutterby, she is showing no signs of slowing down in 2025.

With Team Trick management (Mallrat, Allday, Tyne-James Organ) and booking agency Cult Artists (Parcels, Esha Tewari, Boo Seeka) on her side, Harper Bloom is taking the industry by storm.
