Following the successful soulful release of I Got You, Melbourne singer-songwriter Hannah Acfield returns with Truth — the latest single from her forthcoming album Golden Light, out later this year via Toby Dog Records.
Truth is a slow-building, piano-led testament to quiet strength and self-worth. At its heart is Acfield’s striking voice — pure and resonant, with emotional clarity and a powerful sense of presence. From the tender opening lines to its layered final refrain, Hannah’s performance anchors the song’s message of self-belief and inner resolve.
“Truth is about believing in yourself, trusting your gut, and being resilient. I’ve found that when my worth has been questioned — even subtly — it’s pushed me to dig deeper. Maybe part of me has wanted to prove something, but mostly it’s been about backing myself and not giving up.”
Acfield continues, “With this album, I’ve been trying to be more conscious about choosing hope. My last record came out of the heaviness of lockdown — but with Golden Light, and with Truth, I wanted to offer something uplifting and empowering in a grounded, human way.”
Anchored by expressive piano and subtle electric guitar textures, Truth unfolds with warm restraint — layering ambient swells, bass, and brushed drums to create space for the song’s emotional arc. The mantra-like chorus “Who you gonna believe” gains strength with each repetition, before giving way to the gently affirming final refrain: “You are enough.”
Blending soul, folk and contemporary singer-songwriter influences, Truth draws comparisons to Lianne La Havas, Ainslie Wills, Aldous Harding, and Sarah Blasko. It’s a song that invites stillness, reflection, and a quiet rising.
Acfield’s previous releases have earned praise from The Australian (“a triumph of talent”) and support from folk and roots radio across Australia and abroad. Hannah has showcased at Folk Alliance International (USA) and Focus Wales (UK), and has been described by no less than Joan Armatrading as having “a beautiful voice.
