‘Defective’ is the third single from Ontario-based Evangelia Blackhart and it is angry, raw and unapologetically personal, capturing a dark time in her life that she knows many have faced or are still struggling through. Musically, it is rooted in 90s alternative rock with gritty guitars, emotionally charged vocals, and storytelling lyrics that really paint a picture.
Evangelia told us that vocally this track pushed her far beyond her comfort zone and she is so glad it did. In the process she says she discovered a new way of delivering lyrics that feels deeply emotional and unfiltered.
The thought we’d ask what Evangelia had be up to since she premiered her debut single on The Rockpit. Evangelia said, “Since releasing “Bitter Illness” in March 2024, I followed up with my second single “Finally Free” that August – a more mellow 90s inspired track. Since then I’ve been focused on really honing in on my sound and my mission as an artist, as well as building my confidence in my most authentic voice. I am currently working on my fourth single and I cannot wait to share it with the world!”
