Australian alt-punk band ColourMind make a welcomed return with a powerful new line-up and a blinding new single, ‘Trauma’.

The pacey punk cracker captures the essence of a band in transition while also keeping it with a familiar vibe for ColourMind fans. With a nod to classics from yesteryear, ‘Trauma’ pulls you in with its catchy chorus, driving rhythm and addictive hook.

Vocalist Dylan Symonds says, ”The lyrics capture something we all go through in our lives, the loss of someone or something close to us, whether it be a loved one or family member. The feeling of wanting to switch off from the world can be overbearing and this leads to depression and mental health issues. I wrote ‘Trauma’ while dealing with my own loss, and the lyrics just flowed out as I dealt with the pain.”

Based in Perth, Western Australia, ColourMind have taken everything up a notch with the addition of second guitarist, Taviri Starwood, and former Avastera frontman Dylan Symonds. The chemistry has been instant with the band immediately getting to work on the follow-up to debut album ‘Perfecting Failure’, which was released back in 2023.

Guitarist Jonny Essiech states, “I started playing around with the early demo of Trauma way back while recording our debut album ‘Perfecting Failure’. Once I had the intro and what’s now the chorus chords down, I started getting ideas for Matt (Wenke) to lay down a hard hitting 4 on the floor drum beat. It got me really excited and didn’t realise it would be the first release of ColourMind’s new chapter, being a 5-piece with Taviri, and new frontman Dylan.”

This is an exciting new chapter for a band that is looking to make up for some lost time, with a string of new singles already being worked on. 2025 sees ColourMind back with a vengeance and ready to shake the very stages they play on.

‘Trauma’ is set for release on October 3 and will be available across all streaming platforms. ColourMind will be announcing a single launch event to coincide with the new release.
