The Heritage FM (HFM) radiothon, which will be held from 31 May to 2 June will feature a showcase of some of WA’s known and emerging artists in an effort to raise funds for much needed technological equipment. HFM is a not-for-profit community station and therefore relies on donations and grants to operate. The station provides a platform for local content, voices, and community engagement, often serving as a vital alternative to commercial and public broadcasting. Board Chair Ryan Honschooten said that all funds raised would go towards updating the equipment in the studio.

“We will use the money for the installation of new computers to improve the studio operations and guarantee better broadcasting. We purchased the computers with monies raised from the last radiothon, so it’s time to put them to good use,” said Ryan. “This will give us the opportunity to create additional programming content, and the ability to hire out our studio to generate additional income.”
“Additional funds will also be used to purchase an additional battery storage unit to capture energy created from the station’s solar panels so that we can save more money long term,” he added.

The radiothon will form part of the WA Day long weekend celebration and will run from 12 noon on the Saturday till 7pm Monday with live announcers all weekend.
“A key feature of the event will be a full line up of WA artists playing and singing live acoustically, or announcing their own music,” said Ryan.
Key artists include Joan and the Giants, Siobhan Cotchin, Bailey Perrie, Belgravia, Red Temples and Electric State.

“There will also be prize packs to be won every hour for a donation made in that hour via hfm.radio which will include an eclectic selection of CD’s and other music merch,” Ryan added.
Donations can be made via the HFM website at https://www.hfm.radio/donate or by calling the station on the day at 9398 3100.
