Unicorn, a moody alt-rock-pop outfit hailing from Fremantle, is releasing their latest single, ‘Twisted’. With Jenna Hardie, Ella Munro, Jack Charles and Lochlan Hoffman making up this magical beast of musical intent, this is Unicorn’s first foray into recording together with their new line-up. Unicorn takes inspiration and melodic hints from artists such as PJ Harvey, Dresden Dolls, and Silverchair, delving into sounds reminiscent of the early 90s with musical moments delicately melded from elements of grunge, glam-goth and Australian pop. Singer-songwriter Jenna Hardie writes about friendships, love, and the complicated contradictions and syncopations of life.

Twisted is a song that reflects on the nuances of life, the ups, the downs, heartbreaks and heart warming moments. It is a song to inspire. Jenna Hardie shares her thoughts on the meaning of Twisted, “I was writing this song to inspire myself and others. To do what I want to do. To do what you want to do. It’s really a song about being true to yourself. And having the courage to do that.”

Saturday 21st October at Settlers Tavern, Margaret River

With two distinct sections, the song starts with a brattish bouncy verse. And, as reflected in the title of the song, twists and turns into something completely different. With hints of heavily arpeggiated keys in the background reminiscent of the band Muse, the song becomes larger than life, a metaphor for making the most of your own life.

This is the third single from Unicorn, recorded at Blackbird Sound Studio with sound engineer Dave Parkin and mastered by King William. “Dave has the musicality and expertise to elevate the song to be the biggest and best it can be. With layers of backing vocal harmonies, keys and acoustic guitar to really beef up the sound, the result is a confident, strong and emotive rock song.”

Saturday 4th November at The Bird, Northbridge

Unicorn released their debut single and a music video, ‘Circus’, in April 2022, which has garnered attention across the globe, from Brazil and Mexico, USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Sweden. ‘Cats’ was released in June 2022, with a music video released in early 2023. Both songs have been included in a variety of music blogs, radio plays, websites and Spotify playlists.
