Award-winning San Diego alt rock quintet Switchfoot have released their anticipated new album interrobang via Fantasy Records. The Tony Berg-produced (Phoebe Bridgers, Paul McCartney, Andrew Bird) and Tchad Blake-mixed (Fiona Apple, Arctic Monkeys, Sheryl Crow) record serves as the band’s 12th full-length album release and follows 2019’s Native Tongue. Also out is the music video for focus track ‘lost ’cause.”

Featuring 11 original tracks, interrobang includes previously released tracks ‘i need you (to be wrong),’ ‘fluorescent’ and ‘the bones of us.’ Straying from their typical rock sound, the new album opts for a raw 60’s era pop-infused feel, influenced by working with producer Tony Berg. Penned through the pandemic, interrobang is an album that celebrates the journey when the destination is unsure. It illustrates the contrast between joy and pain, faith, and doubt, and marks a bold new creative peak for the multi-platinum rockers. Named after the punctuation symbol used to capture the intentions of both a question mark and an exclamation point, ‘interrobang’ is a juxtaposition of inquiry and passion, confusion, and urgency.

“We find the title to be the perfect punctuation for the year that we’ve had: a question mark on top of an exclamation mark. Two disagreeing symbols juxtaposed on top of each other,” said Switchfoot frontman and songwriter Jon Foreman. “This symbol sums up the past two years. Political tension, racial tension, economic disparity, a worldwide pandemic, and underneath it all, you and me: interrobang‽”

Accompanying the album release is the music video for ‘lost ’cause.’ Filmed in the back of a tractor-trailer, the band offers an impassioned performance of the track, featuring projections of a bird’s-eye aerial timelapse of nighttime traffic as well as clips of swirling colorful hues.
