New York based multi-instrumentalist Kellindo releases his new single ‘Summertime’ on Friday 29 May.  ‘Summertime’ is Kellindo’s third single this year and hot on the heels of his other 2020 releases ‘Games’ & ‘Stars’.   The Alt-rocker & consummate musician is most famously known as the lead guitarist and co-song writer & arranger for multi-Grammy nominated R&B star Janelle Monáe, with the pair most recently performing live at this year’s Oscars Ceremony in front of an estimated 25 million television viewers.

Music has always been in Kellindo’s blood as he is also the nephew of saxophonist Maceo & drummer Melvin Parker, who both played for many years with the legendary James Brown.  The Rockpit spoke to Kellindo via Skype recently and asked him how long it takes him to write new material.

Well with new material that depends.   Some songs take years because you have a great groove & choral progression, but you update either what the song is about, or the vibe of the song based on the way the music industry changes.  Sometimes a song can take just an hour or so – some songs I even write in my sleep… I’m having a dream and in that dream there is this music in the back ground and I’m thinking, wait a minute, what song is this?  This song doesn’t exist [laughs] so when I wake up, I have to sing the song into my phone right away.”

However Kellindo finds his ways to create his music, it seems to be in such a way that brings success & with his latest works rumored to be a rock opera which is nearing completion, 2020 could still prove to be Kellindo’s biggest year to date as a solo artist.

‘Summertime’ will be available across all the main streaming platforms from Friday 29 May. Check out our full interview with Kellindo HERE.
