Swedish stoner rockers Truckfighters have been celebrating 15 years of their landmark album Gravity X with some key tours around the globe and Australia was lucky enough to be included on the anniversary tour. Ending in Fremantle on Sunday night, the band showed good reason to be back from their hiatus.

Opening the night was local psych rock act Giant Dwarf who had the challenging task of supporting the show on their own. While the crowd wasn’t there at the beginning which is always disappointing, the 5 piece act performed a solid set that was certainly appreciated by the early punters who all had a birds eye view of the set. If given the chance, Giant Dwarf would be a must see in a more intimate venue for sure.

The Swedish rockers themselves known as Truckfighters rolled on to the stage next and while anticipation didn’t appear to be exceedingly high among the very casual atmosphere held at the Freo Social venue, the night turned out to be one of the early highlights for 2020.

The 3 piece outfit which included their latest inclusion to the band, Mr Toro on drums, gave a blistering performance which included a full set of the entire Gravity X album. Thrown into the mix was much of their latest material to pad out the setlist but no matter new or old, the crowd which by the time they hit the stage had filled the floor area to a much more respectable size, lapped it up enjoying and embracing the fuzzy and also heavy sounds that Truckfighters are known for.

An energetic performance including some acrobatic moves from guitarist Niklas ‘Dango’ Källgren made the show even more spectacular, engaging with the audience at every opportunity and displaying classic rock guitar moves that even Hendrix himself would be proud of.

Electrifying, astounding and on point. Truckfighters were a real treat to watch and we can’t wait until they return.
