South Of Eden - The Talk

Ohio –based hard rockers ‘South of Eden arrive with debut EP “The Talk”, via Lava/Republic Records.

The former Black Coffee formed after lead singer Ehab Omran arrived from his native Jordan with ambitions in joining a band. He soon met bassist Nick Frantianne , drummer Tom Mccullogh and guitarist Justin Young after they had all featured in several cover bands in various guises. South of Eden have paid their dues since then, appearing on stage with luminaries such as Foo Fighters to System of a Down. Their hard work and popularity soon caught the eyes of Lava Records boss Jason Flom. It was a move that lead to them going into the studio with Grammy–winning producer Greg Wells (Adele, Twenty Pilots, Deftones).  The result is four tracks of classic rock stylings and soaring vocals with a modern-day twist.

Opener The Talk is a dynamic blast of raucous guitars and soothing melodies to create a true rocker for intriguing new listeners. The mesmerising opening riff is loud and abrasive, as Ehab croons on vocals. The soulful Solo  is fresh with a funky riff. The Chris- Cornell style vocals are rich and passionate over tight refrains, thunderous drums and heart-warming melodies.  Morning Brew is a bluesy number with evocative imagery, slinky basslines and hypnotic guitar breaks that will lead one to kick back and chill.

And Finally, Lead Single Dancing with Fire is the best left for last with a searing guitar lead Def Leppard would be proud of. This high- octane heavy rocker will get many headbanging with screeching vocals embedded with intense drum fills and tasty phrases that will leave listeners worn out long afterwards.

Overall, South of Eden break onto the scene with a fresh impetus of songs to suit any mood from fun and energetic, to reflective and melodic.

8.5/10
