Broken Fate - Reborn

I don’t usually review a lot of what you might call Metal – sticking largely to Hard Rock and Blues but every now and again I hear a band that really grabs me, like New Zealand’s ‘Devilskin.’ The latest band to take my ear though is Zurich-based Modern Thrash band  ‘Broken Fate’ who have just put out their second album.

And quite simply this is just damned good and stirringly heavy stuff! And you are assured of that right from the off – with the roaring opener ‘We Want More’ – a song the band throws themselves into, and which incorporates Metalcore elements an has an insatiable drive. The slower  ‘I Forget Nothing’ that follows soon picks upa head of steam; and then comes one of the big hits! ‘The Hammer Crushes You’ is a song that will stick even on first listen and it’s a track seemingly made to be played live – an out and out thrasher!

My favourite though is still the recent video ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ – a song that soars like old-school Metallica and is some of the best music these guys have produced to date.

There’s plenty more to love though – like the short and sweet ‘Kiss the Night’ which raises a glass to a good night out; then there’s the ultra heavy ‘Our War Against All’ which runs riot; and the weighty instrumental ‘Souls Of Metal’ which hits the spot.

One of the best tracks here though for my money is the final track ‘On The Other Side’ -a ballad to counter all that bludgeoning that has come before it, and what a song! These guys can do no wrong and if you’re a fan of their debut (which I found and played after I heard this record) All I can say is that these are better songs, better played and better sounding. It’s a big leap forward!
