Wolfmother and Jet combine to ‘Chase The Feeling’

Wolfmother & Jet

Between them they’ve amassed eight figure album sales, streams in the billions, headlined festivals across every continent on earth and soundtracked some of the most iconic movies in recent pop culture, so when Australian rock titans Andrew Stockdale (Wolfmother) and Chris Cester (JET) join forces to make a track together, a subtle introspective vanity project is hardly an option.

Introducing the new Wolfmother single ‘Chase The Feeling’ (feat. Chris Cester) – a sweat soaked, instant rock anthem built on a classic Wolfmother riff coupled with Jet’s trademark pulsing rhythmic swagger with Cester manning the drum kit. Stockdale howls as Cester snarls and just like that, this classic was released into the universe.

Stockdale tells the tale of this anthem: “Way back in the day when we were recording the first Wolfmother record, Chris invited us all over for a barbecue at his house in LA. I think we all appreciated the sense of camaraderie he and the band had shown us in the early days. So it’s kind of cool to acknowledge these times by combining forces with a collaboration. With Chris’s signature style drumming, rock speak and his old mate Jason Hills production wizardry, we managed to give one of my riffs a bit of a Hollywood nip and tuck, without over polishing the wild beast. Now it’s morphed into it’s own hybrid anthem for many future backyard cook ups and late night dive bar meanderings.”

Cester adds: “Andrew and I have known each other for years and when he’d come to LA we’d always say “let’s do something let’s jam or whatever” so one day he comes over with this riff, we finished writing it in an hour or two, recorded it all in a couple more. No computers, no BPM’s making it all robotic – all live. I think we did six takes!? It felt good to roll the tape and just deal with the consequences…next to a digital record, it sounds like an animal to me”.

A collaboration born from 100 text exchanges, 1000 coffee fuelled brainstorming sessions at LA hipster coffee joints and 1,000,000 frequent flyer miles as both bands played sold out shows and festivals across the globe including a triumphant homecoming for Wolfmother at Splendour In The Grass 2019. This collaboration is a glorious reminder to all that when executed with authenticity, few things in this world are as primal as a monolithic guitar riff and a hook that commands a spontaneous singalong on first listen.

Pedestrian TV commented on the recent SITG performance: “With a crowd that rivalled day one headliners Tame Impala and Foals, Andrew Stockdale and mates rattled through a laundry list of hits including Woman, Dimension, Apple Tree, and the barnstorming set-closer The Joker & The Thief which probably would’ve registered a Richter Scale reading. Seriously, it fucken ruled.”

Throwback to some footage here, in case you were one of the unlucky ones that missed out.

Wolfmother are headlining Scene & Heard Festival in Cairns, Brisbane and Newcastle from the end of October. As well as playing a special set at Falls Festival over the New Year as Tasmania’s special guest where fans will no doubt be treated to another epic live show.

This is the first and exciting run of new music Wolfmother are currently working on. Stay tuned for more in 2020.For those about to rock, this is Chase The Feeling!
