Incantation - Perth 2019

Loyal metal fans headed down to the Civic in Inglewood on a wet Wednesday night to experience the onslaught of this massive six band line up.

First up was Perth black metal four piece Pestis Cultis formally known as Snorri. They brought the atmosphere with all members wearing matching white wrap around balaclavas from nose down, hoodies and black leather jackets. The Vocalist/ guitarist used a different approach singing his gravely vocals up into the microphone with it high on the stand and pointing down. The set ended with the vocalist taking his guitar off and swinging it around on its chain strap towards punters with it eventually coming loose and it being smashed off stage.

Next up was fellow Perth Death metal/ grind core band Unravel. This band brought some heavy vibes getting straight to the point with their aggressive dual vocals and heavy crunchy dual guitars playing songs off their 2018 full length album ‘Eras of Forfeit’ forcing the crowd to bob their heads along to their tight sound.

Third on the bill was five piece Melbourne black metal band Anatomy. This old school style black metal band who reformed in 2015 brought a traditional sound to the night which was unfortunately was rife with sound issues, The band stopping after their second song to have a full conversation about the issues but they persevered, playing the set in the wrong key. Still an overall good set despite the set backs.

Next up was NervoChaos hailing from Brazil bringing their blackened death and rocky sound. The Four piece opened with their backs to the audience and in synchronized timing turned to face us. Simple yet heavy with dual vocals and tight fast picking guitar playing, they brought a groovy sound to the night with their thrashing and catchy beats which got an awesome crowd participation. They had Minimal interaction with the crowd but thanked Krisiun and Incantation for having them on tour.

Up next was last minute addition to the tour, Brazilian band Krisiun with their third Australian tour and second time in Perth, not bracing our shores since 2014. Having a massive Krisiun logo on their back drop really got the crowd in the mood for what was about to come. The band consisting of three brothers brought relentless blasting and technical riffing, their fast fingers like writhing worms on his fret board. So much precision! They played a variety of songs from throughout their career but mostly from their more recent albums including songs Combustion Inferno, Scourge of the Enthroned, Blood of Lions and Slaying Steel.

Second from last song was a cover of Motorheads ‘Ace of Spades’ which got the crowd going crazy and cemented their old school influence. This is a band that has been around for decades and the professionalism shows and is definitely a band you need to experience for yourself. They thanked the crowd a lot saying without fans there is no band so thanked everyone for coming out.

And finally, what we were all waiting for, Incantation all the way from New Jersey, with their first Australian tour since 2003 and first ever Perth show. Vocalist John McEntee ran the merch stand himself giving fans an opportunity for photos, autographs and discussion. Full of smiles and down to earth. The rest of the band where amongst the punters as one of us.

Hitting the stage in front of a ‘Profane Nexus’ back drop, the venue filled out with eager fans crowding to the front of the stage. As they continued to play a selection of songs from their early career like Golgotha, The Ibex Moon and Impending Diabolical Conquest’, to more recent songs including ‘Carrion Prophecy’, ‘Rites of the Locusts’, ‘Lus Sepulcri’ the crowd was headbanging and getting rowdy. Its been a long time coming for Perth fans.

As the night came to an end people in the front row got guitar blessings from McEntees guitar. As they apologized for the lack of time but promised to soon return so only time will tell.
