EP REVIEW: Municipal Waste – The Last Rager

Release Date: October 11th 2019 - Nuclear Blast

Municipal Waste - The Last Rager

Thrash metal’s favorite partiers Municipal Waste have returned with a bit of a teaser release in the way of an EP titled “The Last Rager”. With only 4 short tracks on offer, there isn’t a lot of detail to go through but what we can say is that it will be enough to tie you over until their next full length.

The EP comes 2 years after their last full length album “Slime And Punishment” which was their first release in 5 years, making new music a little harder to come by from the Virginian thrash metal act compared to their earlier part of their career. Luckily fans won’t have to wait so long for new music as the band are about to drop a little 4 track release which contains all of the band’s signature punk and thrash sounds.

Wave Of Death” opens things with a short mid tempo beat, mostly instrumental with shouts of Wave Of Death thrown in intermittently. Nothing flashy, nice and simple. “Car Nivore (Street Meat)” is trademark Municipal Waste stuff and honestly at this point, nothing less would be expected. Fast, to the point and hooky melodies, all encompassing the thrashers as best we known them.

Rum For Your Life” continues things on with further party thrash mode and this time we see a little classic metal overtones thrown into the mix but the real highlight comes with the title track “The Last Rager“, ending things with a real banger. It’s a little more diverse than the other tracks on offer but with a little more legroom, giving us something a little more interesting and heavier.

“The Last Rager” EP won’t win the band a huge amount of accolades but it’s not meant to, serving as a mere holding place for the next big release from the party thrashers who even after all these years, still know how to crank out the fast stuff very well.

7/10
