If you consider yourself a fan of classic rock, then you should be familiar with the name by now, if not, then you have probably been living under a rock. Greta Van Fleet hailing from Frankenmuth, Michigan is composed of 3 brothers, Sam Kiszka (vocals) Jake Kiszka (guitar), Josh Kiszka (bass/keys) and Danny Wagner on drums.

The band released their debut studio EP, Black Smoke Rising in April 2017. The debut single “highway tune” topped the billboard US Mainstream Rock and Active Rock stations shortly after in September 2017.

A second release, the double EP From the Fires, containing the four songs from Black Smoke Rising and four new songs, was released on November 10, 2017.

Greta Van Fleet has been hailed as the “Zeppelin of our generation”. Some music fans say this with love and others, not so much. A few fans/critics have been spouting off that they are trying too hard to emanate Led Zeppelin.

Regardless of your opinion, there is no doubt that these guys are making some serious noise in the rock scene and they are beyond talented. I have been lucky enough to see them twice live and let me tell you, they are not trying to be anyone but themselves. What these guys are doing comes naturally to them.

The first time i had a chance to check out Greta Van Fleet was at The Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky this past September. I was floored! I remember being in the photo pit and actually pausing to take it all in and i was not the only one.

The guys recently played back to back shows at St Andrew’s Hall in Detroit this past weekend, along with “Goodbye June” as the opening act. Both shows sold out well in advance.

Yes, there are definitely elements of classic rock bands like Zeppelin, but i really can’t name any band out there that have not been compared to someone/something else. So, if you have to be compared to someone, I’m thinking that being compared to Led Zeppelin couldn’t possibly be misconstrued as being a negative comparison.

I have been lucky enough to attend several concerts as a concert photographer and every once in a while a band or performer will come along and stop you in your tracks.

This is one band that you need to see live to truly appreciate their talent.
