One of the most brutal, relentless and vital forces in extreme music, Cattle Decapitation returned to Australia this past few weeks with a closing show in Perth to cap it off. Expectations were high for a good turnout given that this show was added at the last minute due to a demand for the heavy legends to make it all the way out west, luckily they turned up in droves as we found out on Monday night.

First band off the rank was little known Perth outfit Dead Currency, now maybe it was big stage jitters or something else but these guys sounded and felt uncomfortable sorry to say. To the bands credit the band powered on with lead singer Marco at various intervals jumping into the crowd like a madman to get the assembled audience hyped. I think with a little more time and honing of their respective craft it could be something to watch out for.

Next was Unravel bringing there own brand of death metal grindcore, these guy really take extreme music to the next level in my humble opinion. Now I’ve most likely said this before but Unravel to me sound like another band that have a similar style, Nails and mid-set you could really see them take flight bludgeoning us with a solid set with very little room to breathe! If you haven’t seen these guys yet you’re missing out. Speaking of bands worth your time, home town brutes Earth Rot take to the stage and within moments have the crowd fixated, albeit slowly. The band quickly ramp up the energy levels and by mid-set I think the entire room was moving in some shape or form, these guys were the consummate professionals and a real shining example of what our city can bring to the table in terms of heavy, solid as bricks music. Stand out tracks included “Waves Of The Backest Mire”, “The Ancient Fire” and “Terraform” – well played and I’m sure the masses would agree?

Now for the main event, San Diego giant slayers Cattle Decapitation took to the stage opening with the ominous track “The Carbon Stampede”. With every vantage point secured the band single handedly destroy the club with very little fanfare, vocalist Travis Ryan was on point for the entire set and did not falter once and drummer Dave Mcgraw was a god damn machine! I could seriously go on for centuries, it was a MASTER class in every aspect of the word. Stand out tracks included “Forced Gender Reassignment”, “Clandestine Ways” and set closer “Your Disposal”. This set was everything I’d hoped for and more – much more! Myself and many other fans went home tonight completely satisfied and another huge tick on the band’s I must see bucket list has been achieved!
