ALBUM REVIEW: Bitzer – Pedigree Mongrel

June 15th 2018

Australian Hard rockers Bitzer release their second album Pedigree Mongrel a selection of classic golden era Australian rock songs, this is a must for fans of late 60’s and mid 70’s hard rock. With track’s by The Easybeats, AC/DC (Bon Scott Era ) and The Angels.

‘St. Louis’ the first song is a throw back to the days when music was pure and simple, this is a fresh sound to a great song sang by Steve Mulry. We then power into AC/DC’S ‘Down Payment Blues’ from the Powerage album and as always Anthony (Skenie) Skene has the perfect vocals that fit beautifully with any Bon Scott song from that period, he also sings on the other two songs on the album: ‘Dog Eat Dog’ and ‘Bad Boy Boogie.’

‘Superman’, their first single is sung by Lucy Desoto, it is a ripper of a track and it is easy to see why it was chosen as their first single. ‘I’ll Be Gone’ is the only odd track on this album, in my opinion it is more of a pop/country song, but it somehow fits well in amongst the other hard rock tracks. The closing track ‘Run For The Shelter’ is a kick in the teeth tune that The Angels would have been proud of.

All in all, If you’re a fan of cover albums, then I would recommend this in your collection, there is something to please everyone on this album, 4 out of 5 stars.
