Northlane Drop Colourwave Video & Announce Supports for Upcoming Australian Tour

Northlane have dropped a brand new video for Colourwave as well as announced supports ahead of the Australian leg of the Mesmer World Tour. Joining Northlane on the road will be Erra and Sworn In, both making their Australian debut this October. Opening each show will be an upcoming local artist, handpicked by Northlane.

Since Mesmer’s surprise drop in March this year, Colourwave has charged ahead to become one of the most popular songs on the album. Thematically, Colourwave delves into guitarist Josh Smith’s battle with depression and the darkness his mind created in a world that drips in colour. A therapeutic song for Smith to pen, Northlane worked with their longtime collaborator Jason Eshraghian to bring Colourwave to life.

Josh Smith says: “Colourwave has been one of the fan favourite tracks on Mesmer so we felt compelled to shoot a video for it. Our main goal here was to create the most visually stunning clip to date. While the crazy UV paint scenes were the centerpiece here, it had to also tie into the lyrics thematically at the same time. The song is about suffering through mental illness and realising that the negative glass through which you see the world is within your own mind.”

Joining Northlane for the first time in Australia is tech metalcore crew Erra. The two bands have shared stages on the other side of the world, and it’s only fitting Erra’s debut Down Under is with Northlane. Crash landing at a nexus between heavy metal, progressive, and alternative, Erra entranced audiences with 2016’s Drift, which impressively bowed at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart. The band have finely honed their tech prowess on tours with August Burns Red, Born of Osiris, TesseracT, and many others, building a devout fan base and receiving praise from Guitar World, Revolver, Alternative Press, and more.

Also making their Australian debut this October is Sworn In. Cultivating a strong concoction of abrasive, angry music and raw, unfiltered emotional honesty, in recording and through live performances, Sworn In delivers an emotional outpour through words and with music to match that intensity. Recently emerging from a two-year period of darkness, Sworn In broke their silence with their third LP, All Smiles. It serves as the apex of the group’s indefinable assault thus far, gleefully stitching together a rag doll of heavy metal, hardcore, goth, punk, and alternative best described as Slipknot covering The Black Parade. They ravaged stages alongside everyone from Slayer to The Devil Wears Prada and Code Orange with a unique focus on visuals and theatrics.

In the spirit of supporting emerging talent, Northlane opened up the floor to their fans, asking them which local bands they want to see open the Mesmer World Tour in their city. After listening to hundreds of submissions, Northlane have personally chosen the following bands: Adelaide – I, Icarus; Melbourne – Thornhill; Perth – Once Almost Never; Sydney – Easy Life; Brisbane – Deadlights.
