ALBUM REVIEW: Septillion – Inheritance

Septillion - Inheritance

Wow!! When you hear this album you’ll be left with the wondering feeling of how this band can bring something this intense into the scene. Dark, brutal, epic, this is the soundtrack to an apocalyptic war, the coldness in this record is quite frightening and sums up what this band is all about which is a feeling of the 90’s underground metal.

With absolute perplexity this album is a ripper and has no weak songs, every single song has it own identity, consumed by hatred it reflex the topics in this album. When the opener “This Barren Land” lurks out of the shadows a cold shiver was sent down my spine and the sounds of “When The Sun Burns” shriek like a wounded wolf when you hear lyrics like “under the southern cross we dwell”, it totally felt so evil while those riffs are marching on towards total domination. “All Hail The King” is black metal of the darkest order, Septillion can create the coldest atmospheres while the drums and guitar riffs are galloping to the total unknown, this track in particular epitomises the vibe which this album is forged on.

Perth is really blossoming with so many bands lately and ‘Inheritance’ has that 90’s French/Norwegian feeling but also other elements , those chunky riffs delivering excruciating passages leading to the coldest place you ever been. “Malphas” has that occult vibe as whoever that knows what this is about, singing about these topics is not a trend, it is a belief and if you don’t believe in these things then these songs are worthless to you. Here you can hear those elements which smells of  pestilence and violence succumbing to the deepest pit of hell but also how epic this album sounds and brings out a lot of emotions, I really hope the next record is darker than this one because this needs to rise until the legions arrived to join Septillion.

As the vocals are leading the pack the procession of souls are endless as the chanting tunes are travelling the darkest path. “No Church Of Mine” appears in demon form, this song is one of the crowd favourites when it’s played live and the studio version sounds even better, when you hear a band in top form it is an enjoyable experience. The dynamics seems to never fade which is also a very particular point, in my opinion this is a strong record, well written, there’s no a dull moment, lots of things going on from subtle melodies to apocalyptic destruction. The last two songs on the record are motions in black, the riffs are diverse with a sense of obliteration destroying anything that crosses it’s path, you can’t stop this wild form of obscure entity.

Now that the verdict is out, as most of you probably heard this album or maybe not, is that I know one thing – this album won’t disappoint. If you feel you probably think there’s a strong force in the unknown, take this album with you and embrace the darkness and keep the flames alive and Septillion will become masters of our own destiny, a place that we will call “home” one day.
