ALBUM REVIEW: King Parrot – Ugly Produce

King Parrot - Ugly Produce

King Parrot is from another planet, their style of music is unrelenting, ugly, nasty but it’s like a million shots fired to your body and you don’t know where the bullets are coming from. Slabs of torrential riffs to look for cover but at the same time you want this as this band is “Brutality” with a capital B.

Third album and to be honest they are getting better, it’s amazing how they can keep the intensity flowing for the whole record. If their last record “Dead Set” was a statement of things to be elevated into a more brutal way, well this album certainly does those grinding passages which made my face melt surrounded by an eternal frenzy of emotions. I don’t know if anyone will notice but the first 5 songs has those mid pace songs with a bit of fast tempo but after the next 5 songs, holy smokes they really up the tempo so high that it is unbelievablly brutal. If by now you haven’t broken your neck, be prepared because those guitar riffs are scorching and that voice!!! If Brian Johnson wanted to sing extreme music this is how he will sound like.

When I heard the first single released a few weeks ago I knew this was going to be as brutal as ever and I was not wrong here. “10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag” has that ramming speed, constantly coming to harass you and leave you breathless, “Entrapment” as the opener gives you the chills, already those gnarling voices are quite frightening and is like razor blades cutting you slowly. The drums really set the tone in this album, so precise and gives the album an extra dose of brutality. Even the lack of solos doesn’t make the album any weaker, is the total opposite. This songs demands to start a huge mosh pit and unleash the madness when this band is playing.

“Disgrace Yourself” has that mad guitar riff in my opinion, there’s some thrash riffs here, this song brings the level of intensity up and this is when it gets interesting as the other half of the album truly is mesmerising and terrifying at the same time as the speed levels are changed to another gear. “Scattered” is the first of so many to start the slaughter, the blastbeats are in order here, the carnage, the tension is building you can feel it. “Now It Stokes Frenzy”, absolutely bestial, raw, obnoxious, this is what extreme metal is meant to be, no compromises, no rules, just total obliteration. If you can’t digest this I recommend you to step away as this is not pretty and not for the faint hearted.

It’s also good to see an Aussie band being signed by a label [EVP Recordings], I think this band has the chops to take their music to the next level without compromising which is very exciting to see, I can see this band going a long way. I know it’s too early to tell but what the next record will sound like is hopefully dabbling more with the brutal side as this is their bread and butter and they just do it so well, this album reflects where they are in a musical way. Now it is up to us the “punters” to give them all the support they need as I can tell they put their heart and soul to make a record that will numb your senses.
