Worry Blast – Hit the Gas

Mighty Music - January 22nd 2016

This AC/DC inspired hard rock band from Switzerland bring out their newest release in the form of “Hit The Gas” which serves up some true rock n’ roll.

There’s a big AC/DC meets The Georgia Satellites sound to opener ‘Raised by Rock ‘n’ Roll’ that really hits the spot and brings you to earth with a jolt – it’s true, things don’t need to be any more complicated than this do they? ‘Heads Will Roll’ that follows is just as earthy as is the title track ‘Hit the Gas’ from the off it’s obvious the huge nod these guys give to AC/DC and the dirty riff-based rock that followed in their wake, but these Swiss rockers really do have the songs to make them more than just followers.

The rest of the album is almost equally as gritty an immediate with the big bass sound on ‘Born to Lose’ being a particular favourite but by the end you might think the ride has been a little one speed and the scenery a bit monochrome.

Elsewhere ‘Hold Up’ has a nice swagger and ‘Gone to the Dogs’ a deep thick groove, and yes you do normally end up wondering which AC/DC song a particular track reminds you of!

In truth there’s not really a bad song on here and I’d be more than happy to catch these guys live when they can pull out ditties like ‘At Daggers Drawn’ and the slower bluesier ‘Family Business’ the only real slower number here, that sways on a killer groove. The album closes with another of the best ‘Hot Blooded Woman’ which even has a hint of Def Leppard in the chorus. This is an album to crank up loud!

Let’s face it at the end of the day AC/DC exist and if you take the same approach as they did then there’s always going to be the opportunity to write you off, but as we all found out over the last twelve months AC/DC won’t be around forever and then what happens?
