The New Breed (EP)

Self-Released - May 2016

The New Breed are a fresh, Rock N’ Roll band from the North West of England, encompassing everything great about the 70’s and 80’s of music, whilst driving proper Rock N’ Roll into a modern era. We take a closer look at their debut self titled EP while discovering the band for the first time.

Hailing from the North West of England, The New Breed deliver a tasty 5 track EP chock full of 70’s/80’s inspired rock n roll. From the outset, it’s clear these guys can play – opening track “Soul Train” is a tight, kick ass, rollicking good time. Slap bang between bands such as The Treatment and the classics of Deep Purple and Aerosmith, gives a decent idea of where these guys are coming from.

“Lie To Me” keeps the energy amped, with a real live rawness. And If I didn’t live on the other side of the world, these first couple of tracks and the promise of cowbell alone, have me keen to check out if these guys deliver where it counts…on the main stage!

“Get Some” is a perfect showcases for the bands musical chops. Bringing in obvious influences from the likes of early Whitesnake and Led Zeppelin, it’s a brooding 5 minute track, descending into an Appetite era GNR riffo-rama, with some scorching solo work. If I had to choose one track to introduce someone to The New Breed, this would be it. Classic Rock Magazine – here’s a track for your next “New Breed” themed cover CD!

Standing out from the pack is no easy feat, when what you deliver is still being done by the legends and the modern day flag bearers such as the likes of Rival Sons etc. “Heartbreaker” takes a sleazy, turn, albeit a heard it all before one. But the doomy and sludgy tinged “Black Seas, High Tide”, bodes well, with the guys bringing in some twists and turns with their songwriting and showing they’ve got a definite few tricks up their sleeve.

Whether these guys will be part of “the new breed” of rock bands around the world keeping the spirit of rock n roll alive for decades to come, only time will tell. But, if these 5 songs are anything to go by, I’ll most certainly be keeping an ear to the wind to catch what they release next.
