Revered Australian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and activist Xavier Rudd has unveiled one of the most significant releases of his career, the powerfully hypnotic single and video, Part of Life, via Salt.X Records & Virgin Music Group. As Rudd explains, “This is more than a song, it’s an art collaboration”. Listen here / view here.
Part of Life’s central protagonists are Rudd, with his powerful reminder to listen to the women of our world, the late Dr Jane Goodall, whose voice we hear closing the song, and one of Australia’s most celebrated creatives and animators, Jarrad Wright (The Big Lez Show), who brought Rudd’s artistic vision to life.
Xavier Rudd explains, “Like most of my songs, the lyrics kinda say it all, but with “Part of Life”, I guess the underlying message is a reminder that in a male dominated world, how important it is to remember to listen to our women.
“The front half of the song touches on the journey of life and the struggles we face, the lessons we learn. The back half then drifts into this retrospective bubble or dream cloud, with the sound of ancient whales and the wise words of the late Dr Jane Goodall as the figure of a strong feminine elder to sum it all up.
“I’ve always marvelled at the way things can flow when it comes to the mysterious happenings related to the spirit of music.
“For me the synergy around this song was strong. The events in my life, the song coming through me, Dr Jane’s final words before she died and then the final chapter of meeting the amazing and hilarious local animator, Jarrad Wright. I’d been watching some of his stuff and when I reached out to him about working on the video, he told me he’d just been watching a show featuring Jane Goodall and was pumped about the idea of this collaboration.
“To me this is more than a song, it’s an art collaboration and I’m super proud of it. I hope people can relate to it in their own ways.”
