Ali Campbell is the original voice and frontman of UB40. He departed the band in 2008 and formed a new version of the band, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell with Mickey Virtue and Astro from the former version of the band.
Ali Campbell’s UB40 have a strong connection with Australia having visited us four times in the last eight years and the 2026 Big Love Australia Tour sees them return for a fifth visit in January.
This time Campbell is the last remaining original UB40 member in this line up. After all Campbell is the voice and charisma of the band we have all come to know and love over the last forty-five years. Andrew Slaidins caught up with Ali ahead of the tour to talk a little history, his influences, what had made the music so enduring and his connection with Australia.
