Perth’s Electric Eye Heavy Fest returns in 2025, reaffirming its place as one of Western Australia’s premier celebrations of heavy music. Taking over Freo.Social on Saturday October 4 2025, the festival delivers a powerhouse lineup of extreme metal, uniting some of the most formidable names in the scene.

Daniel (drums) from EARTH ROT took some time out to chat with us here at The Rockpit about what they are most looking forward to, what the band has planned for the rest of the year and teasers about what they’re bringing to their set!

Sean: How does it feel to be part of Electric Eye Heavy Fest this year? What drew you to say yes to this event?

Daniel: It feels great to be back home, finally playing live again in Perth.  The festival looks like loads of fun, and it’s always a ripper time sharing the stage with a whole bunch of mates.

Sean: What are you expecting from the Fremantle crowd?

Daniel: A welcome home. Coming back to WA always feels like a return, and the crowd is always so gracious and welcoming. We look forward to it every time.

Sean: What have you been up to in 2025? Any recent releases, tours, or major milestones you’d like fans to know about?

Daniel: We’ve been hard at work finalising the writing for the next album. But aside from that, we were lucky enough to return to Japan to play some shows along Atheist and a bunch of other great guys in great bands.

Sean: Can you give us a teaser – what can fans expect from your set at Freo Social? Are you pulling out anything special for this show?

Daniel: Songs we’ve never played … Plus riffs. Many riffs.

And maybe finger-guns too…

Sean: This year’s lineup includes Disentomb, Werewolves, Eye of the Enemy – some heavy hitters! any bands you’re especially excited to share the stage with?

Daniel: Any and all of them! Disentomb are brilliant; seeing them live is a privilege. The Werewolves guys are champs, not the first time we’ve joined them on a line-up and hopefully more to come.

All in all, it’s just a super strong lineup. Each band is brilliant in their own way and we’re glad to participate.

Sean: For those unfamiliar with your music – how would you describe your sound, and what are some of your core influences?

Daniel: We’re a blend of black metal and death metal, with a classic HM2 tone. A tiny bit of doom and groove tossed in there too.

One review said we sound line ‘Entombed playing Mayhem’. I like that.

Sean: What comes next after Electric Eye for you – more shows, studio time, or maybe a bit of rest after the chaos?

Daniel: Studio time, that’s the focus. Our drummer is hustling back to Melbourne right away and jumping straight into tracking.

Sean: You can invite 3 musicians dead or alive to join you for dinner. Who would you invite?

Daniel: Chuck Schuldiner, a pioneer. Vegard from Emperor; really nice guy. And finally Charles Bradley, an incredible voice and performer.

Sean: If you could be credited with writing any song ever written, what song would you choose?

Daniel: That’s a tough one… Probably ‘Tourist in Paradise’ by The Rippingtons.

Phenomenal.
