Perth’s Electric Eye Heavy Fest returns in 2025, reaffirming its place as one of Western Australia’s premier celebrations of heavy music. Taking over Freo.Social on Saturday October 4 2025, the festival delivers a powerhouse lineup of extreme metal, uniting some of the most formidable names in the scene.
Daniel (vocals, rhythm guitar) from KING ZOG took some time out to chat with us here at The Rockpit about what they are most looking forward to, and what the band has planned for the rest of the year.
Sean: How does it feel to be part of Electric Eye Heavy Fest this year? What drew you to say yes to this event?
Dan: We’re very grateful. It feels fantastic to be asked to join the line-up for such a well curated heavy music festival – saying anything other than ‘yes’ wasn’t an option.
Sean: What are you expecting from the Fremantle crowd?
Dan: No one dragging a set of bongos onto the stage, hopefully. I’m curious to see a Freo metal-loving crowd in full swing, as we haven’t played in Freo too often (although we played our very first gig at Mojos more than a decade ago).
Sean: What have you been up to in 2025? Any recent releases, tours, or major milestones you’d like fans to know about?
Dan: We released our second album in 2024 (Second Dawn) and it received a very positive global response, and we signed a deal with Hammerheart Records for a European release. 2025 has been quiet by our standards, but we have a new drummer and lead guitarist so have been forging fresh riffs with them.
Sean: Can you give us a teaser – what can fans expect from your set at Freo Social? Are you pulling out anything special for this show?
Dan: We’re very much looking forward to unveiling the new line-up, featuring Mark De Vattimo (Psychonaut, Voyager) on lead guitar and returning drummer Rory Keys (Twin Serpents, Valdaway), and debuting some brand-new material for what will be our only gig for 2025.
Sean: This year’s lineup includes Disentomb, Werewolves, Eye of the Enemy – some heavy hitters! any bands you’re especially excited to share the stage with?
Dan: It’s such a varied and killer line-up and we’re excited to share the stage with all the bands, but I’m particularly looking forward to witnessing Werewolves.
Sean: For those unfamiliar with your music -how would you describe your sound, and what are some of your core influences?
Dan: Our first two records lean into traditional doom metal (Sabbath, Pentagram) with some influences from the heavier grunge bands – but there’s some NWOBHM vibes seeping into the newer material (Witchfynde, Angel Witch etc).
Sean: What comes next after Electric Eye for you – more shows, studio time, or maybe a bit of rest after the chaos?
Dan: We’ll continue putting songs together for the third LP, and have just been included on the Spliffs & Riffs 2026 line-up.
Sean: You can invite 3 musicians dead or alive to join you for dinner. Who would you invite?
Dan: Ozzy. Bon Scott. Malcolm Young. My liver’s having a heart attack just thinking about it.
Sean: If you could be credited with writing any song ever written, what song would you choose?
Dan: Supernaut, Black Sabbath. But I couldn’t take it away from them.
